This work sheet will help you write an essay as part of your Critical Activity.
Investigations.Target 1 – Collect some basic facts about Constable and Turner’s lives.
Target 2 –Choose 2 (or more) Constable Paintings noting title and dates– see Link Library.
Target 3 – Use worksheet Looking at Paintings to write about each painting –it will help you select the key points and help you find the write words.
Target 4 – Choose 1 Turner painting noting title and dates.
Target 5 – Use the worksheet to discuss this painting.
Target 6 – Write a paragraph comparing Turner and Constable.
Target 7 – Submit your essay to your teacher for his comments.
Final Essay.
Re-read your investigations, read the teacher comments and have the paintings of Constable and Turner that you chose handy. The essay should take the following format:
Introduction.
State who you are going to write and give some basic facts about his life, where he worked, his training and who influenced him.
50 –75 words.
Main Part.
Discuss his paintings – personal opinions are what matter.
400 – 500 words.
Compare and Contrast:Compare and contrast Constable and Turner.
50 – 75 words
Conclusion.
Sum up your feelings about Constable.

Looking at the Paintings
You can use this worksheet for each painting you look  at. It will help you find the words to express your feelings. Theses sites will also help you. You don’t have to discuss every topic although it would be good if you can. What is important is to look at the paintings carefully and with understanding.

Give the title of the picture you are studying.
Give the date it was painted.
State the size – if known – of the picture.
Describe what the scene painted, are there many trees, people etc..

Discuss the use of distance (sense of depth)in the picture and how it is created.
