INTRODUCTION TO ART AND DESIGN

One of our most valuable assets is the power of vision, our ability to gain
a visual understanding of our world. We live in an age of visual communication
with television, posters, magazines bombarding us with visual information.
This department seeks to develop an awareness of ones surroundings, and
the stimulation of the creative process through practical work as well as
creating an awareness of the current thinking, regarding contemporary Art
and Design. Art and Design follows a route of instructions on the basic
practical skills of visual interpretation, through Drawing and Painting,
3D work, Design and critical activity as well as encouraging creativity
of thought. A lot of life's skills can be nurtured and developed through
this experience as well as giving pupils necessary skills for future life,
whether it is recreational or vocational.
