DEPARTMENT POLICY. Fostering Pupil Success; Praise and Encouragement – Praise is essential for a positive and a successful experience in this department. · Individual pupil work should be praised and brought to the attention of the class · Individual praise should be fostered · There should be a constant turn around of work displayed on walls · Staff have the facilities to display work on display boards and frames around the school to promote an awareness to the school, of pupil work · Attitudes to working should also be praised DISCIPLINE – DEPARTMENT POLICY · Staff should be aware of a whole school policy and strategy for conduct and discipline. All procedures for a whole school policy, are listed in the school handbook. · There is a referral and detention system for the whole school with appropriate papers and forms left in the staff base. The department policy is listed on the following sheet. ETHOS AND DISCIPLINE This department has a contribution to make towards a whole school ethos by adopting a sympathetic style of teaching as well as encouraging acceptable standards of attitude and behaviour towards their studies and a responsibility towards each other. There is a fixed procedure for pupils entering this department as regards conduct, attitude and discipline – Staff should encourage a positive attitude from pupils by – · Positive and sympathetic approach to pupils artistic endeavours · Praise and display of art work · Encouraging a respect for materials and Art Department environment · Following the Art Department code of conduct · Promoting a stimulating and attractive well organised work area · Being present to organise pupil entry to department and follow up department procedures on preparation for work and clearing up and exit procedures. ENTRY AND EXIT PROCEDURES Pupils should move directly to their area in the Art Department remove outdoor clothing and sit down to await staff instructions. Eating is not permitted in the department. |
