5-14    S1 PROGRAMME OF STUDY

It is hoped that an S1 experience will contain programmes of study based on the following.

materials, techniques, skills and media

-      Investigating visually and recording

-     Using media

-     Using visual elements

Expressing – feelings, ideas, thoughts, solutions

-      Creating and Designing

-      Communicating

Evaluating and appreciating

-      Observing, reflecting, describing, and responding

The programme of study in S1 should also take the form of "mini" standard grade type schemes

of work as well as exploration of media and visual elements in the form of "one-offs"

All S1 pupils should experience samples of EXPRESSIVE, DESIGN, and CRITICAL WORK

Example scheme of work:

            "Expressive use of colour"

Looking at the basic of colour theory, mixing and application of paint techniques to create mood

and atmosphere in painting compositions, through the study of "impressionism" and other artists.
